Propeller Structure Engineer (m/f/d)
(full-time, starting as soon as possible, permanent contract)

Realize your dream of doing exceptional things and be part of something bigger right from the beginning! We at ERC stand for the development of an electrical vertical takeoff and landing vehicle (eVTOL) that lasts beyond us! We work hard to achieve this goal – with passion, a pioneering spirit, and strong partners. As we are trustworthy, open and focused, we do not make empty promises. But we still need your commitment to be among the best on the long run!

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a highly motivated Propeller Structure Engineer to support our Propeller Design Team. The Propeller Design Team is responsible for the propeller blade design process and performing the relevant aerodynamic/aeroelastic/acoustic modeling and analysis. This includes working with different levels of fidelity (CFD, FEM, BEMT, analytical and experimental measurements) to describe the study the physical system and derive reduced order models for a multi-objective optimization basis. The team is involved exploring the available design space and finding optimal solutions, with regards to propeller aerodynamic efficiency, noise footprint, loads, vibrations, mass, etc. Your role within the Propeller Design Team will be to model and analyse the structural properties of current and future propeller designs. This will involve working closely with an external manufacturing supplier and developing different structural designs to improve the propeller system behavior. Furthermore, it would involve assisting and taking part in experimental testing activities.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop different structural design concepts and evaluate their trade-off characteristics
  • Optimize the propeller mass and structural properties
  • Perform numerical structural analysis of propeller designs using coupled FSI (CFD-FEM) and reduced order models
  • Coordinate communication with external propeller manufacturing supplier
  • Oversee manufacturing process and maintain the material database
  • Perform failure analysis and assist in experimental testing duties
  • Assist in post-processing of experimental measurements

YOUR PROFILE

you should …
  • Hold an Master degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or a related field
  • Have 3 years of working experience in structural design of rotors and propellers
  • Have good knowledge with structural dynamics and rotating systems
  • Have strong motivation to establish processes and organizational structures
  • Have good mechanical understanding and basic system knowledge
  • Have good knowledge of a CAD system (Siemens NX is preferred)
  • Have basic knowledge in a programming language (Ansys APDL, Python, Matlab are preferred)
